Tap Set Cable ID and the app should auto-detect the Cable ID of the SY-300 (it should sync up with Cable ID = 0). At the opening screen tap the three vertical dots at top right of the app screen to get to the configuration screen. Don't go over 3M in total length of cables or you might have connection problems.Ĥ) After installing the app, and cabling up your device to the synth turn on your SY-300 and run Midi Commander. EBay and Amazon have a gazillion of them starting at $3.99.ģ) A standard USB cable to connect synth to phone which will be USB B male on one end (the larger squarish USB plug which goes into the USB port on the synth) and the very common USB type A male on the other end. You can DIY modify a standard cable with the right connector combination but they're very cheap so why bother? I got mine for about $7.00 CAD at a local computer parts dealer. This app allows you to 'record' MIDI patch change data as transmitted by the synth over USB and assign them to an on-screen button array on your phone. I've had no luck getting any of those DAW control apps (TouchDAW for example) to talk to my Roland/Boss synths from my droid phone.
Most Android MIDI related apps are virtual synths, or seem to be specifically designed for controlling a computer DAW. Since us poor Android music freaks don't have the wealth of MIDI apps that iOS/iPhone users have to dive into my quest to find a cheap or free app to switch patches on my guitar synths from my Android phone was hopelessly stalled until I finally came up with the method I'm now using to quickly change patches on all my Roland and Boss guitar synth boxes (VG-99, GR-55 and now SY-300)
